Croyde Surf Report

January 26, 2017

Very strong, cold and biting South Easterly offshore winds, gusting up to gale force 8. Reasonably sized surf, around the 6ft mark, but totally unsurfable due to the strength of the wind. No takers at Croyde today, but a few ventured in around at Puts this afternoon as there was just a little bit more shelter from the intensity of the wind.

Consistent 5-6ft surf this morning with the ocasionally bigger sets to measure. Moderate South Easterly offshore wind which is requiring a little effort to paddle into the waves. Quite a peaky, clean swell on offer with long wally sections running on the inside. Will get a a little bigger on the pushing tide...and there's always the threat that the wind might shift to a more Southerly cross shore direction.

2-3ft sets on the pushing tide with a very light offshore wind first thing this morning. As the day progressed there were threatening signs of an ever increasing Southerly wind, but it didn't really materialise. The day continued with lots of warm sunshine and lots of small fun surf, ending with 2ft waves and an evening glass off. Emptyness!!

3-4 ft dropping swell. Light-moderate SSE cross offshore wind. Not the cleanest of surf, but still a little bit of shape there.

4ft surf with a very light offshore wind. Another day of clean long wally peaks at high tide. Cold as cold air temperature, the sea temperature's OK, but once out of the briney, it's bl--dy freezing. You'll need to be young, or, if you're older, mad to contemplate 2 surfs!
